ADAM DOUGLAS HILLS was born on February 11, 1966, to Douglas and Julieann (Newhouse) Hills in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was baptized as an infant in the family home. Adam grew up in Edina and Anoka, Minnesota area where he graduated high school in 1984. During his school years he enjoyed being a member of the football team and working at the car lot with his father. Adam loved spending time with his mom and Grandma learning traditional Russian cooking and baking family recipes like Russian bread and sausage. This sparked a lifelong passion in Adam and he would later develop chef-like cooking skills enjoyed by many. One of the highlights of Adam’s childhood was spending time with his Aunt Mary, Uncle Tom, and cousin, Robert. Adam also learned how to can with his Aunt Mary.
Adam enlisted in the United States Navy following his education and made his family proud serving as a Nuclear Technician. He furthered his education while in the military and studied Electric Engineering. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy in 2000, he went on to hold positions with Granite Services, PenPower, GE, and Baker Hughes. In his spare time he was an avid collector of cast-iron and enjoyed shooting and fishing.
Adam was united in marriage to Jennifer Brownlee on December 25, 2005, in Ramsey, Minnesota. Adam cherished the time he spent with family. On Sunday, June 12, 2022, Adam passed away at the Pipestone County Medical Center at the age of 56 years, four months, and one day. His wife will fondly remember his reliable response of “yes, Dear” to her requests or questions and the “Get ‘er Done” that addressed any tasks. He was a hard worker and good listener. Adam leaves behind a legacy of impacts made by serving as an incredible example of a quiet servant to others throughout his life. He never hesitated to put others before himself and help anyone in need. Whether it was assistance navigating through a particularly rough patch in life or creating some extra holiday cheer, he was there to say, “Just checkin’ in on ya!” He will truly be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer of Pipestone; children, Steven McCutchen of Pipestone, Michael Dahl of Pipestone, and Andrew; honorary daughter, Hannah; honorary grandson, Tatum; father, Douglas; sisters, Kelly (Michael) Brown and Katherine Hills; nieces and nephews, Kassie and Mike Edgar, Alex Nowrang, Chazalynn LaPenotiere, and Malaika Raini; aunt, Mary (Tom) Simms; uncle, Richard “Oak” Newhouse; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Julieann Jean Hills; grandparents, Edna and Richard Newhouse; aunts, Diane Slowik, Donna Holmes, and Connie Nelson; and uncle, Steve Newhouse.
