ALAN PAUL WILLEY was born on October 8, 1954 to Kenneth and Jylan Willey in Pipestone, Minnesota. He attended grade school and high school in Pipestone, graduating in 1973. After graduation he continued his education at the Pipestone Area Vocational School. He was married in 1976 and from that union was blessed with three children. For some years he lived in the Twin Cities with his family. In 1993, he returned to Pipestone. While there he worked in several health care facilities as a caregiver. In April of 2013 he was diagnosed with cancer. On Thursday, February 6, 2014 he was admitted to the Pipestone County Hospice House where he passed away surrounded by family on Friday, February 7, 2014 at the age of 59 years, 3 months, and 29 days old.
Alan enjoyed writing poetry and was published several times. He also spent time drawing and doing art work. At the age of 15, he became an Eagle Scout in Pipestone where he attained the love of the Native American Culture. He was a very spiritual man and believed deeply of the Native American Culture.
He is lovingly remembered by his three children, Shannon Willey of Belle Plaine, Minnesota, Sarah (Greg) Nelson of Mankato, Minnesota, and Jason (Diane) Willey of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota; his father, Kenneth Willey of Pipestone; four grandsons, Nicholas, Dylan, Jadison, and Noah; siblings, Gayl (James) Thode of Pipestone, Mary Willey of Madison, South Dakota, Ruth (Rod) Staeffler of Ruthton, Minnesota, John Willey of Windom, Wisconsin, and Jana Willey of Pipestone; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Jylan; two siblings; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
