Albert Hoogland

ALBERT GENE HOOGLAND was born to Gerrit and Henrietta (Kraayenbrink) Hoogland on January 17, 1949 in Le Mars, Iowa. He was baptized and made profession of faith in the Christian Reformed Church. He was raised on the farm and attended country school through the fifth grade near Maynard, Minnesota. The family then moved to a farm near Magnolia, Minnesota. At this time, Albert attended and later graduated from Southwest Christian School in Edgerton, Minnesota. In 1969, Albert entered the United States Army and was stationed in Korea while serving his country during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1970 and returned home to the farm. On April 15, 1971 Albert was united in marriage to Myrna Sandbulte at the American Reformed Church in Luverne. The couple worked side by side and made their home on a farm near Luverne, Minnesota. Albert lived a simple life and took pride in serving as a steward to the land. In 2004, he and Myrna moved to an acreage just south of Garretson, South Dakota. Albert was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2005. On Wednesday, March 12, 2014, Albert went to be with his Lord at the Dougherty Hospice House at the age of 65 years, one month and 25 days.

Albert was a member of the American Reformed Church in Luverne where he served as a RCYF counselor. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, flying, playing in card clubs and gardening. Later in life, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and pestering them whenever he had the opportunity.

Albert is lovingly remembered by his wife of 42 years, Myrna; four children, Terry and Nancy Hoogland of Luverne, and their children, Christopher, Hannah, Nicole, Julia, Rebecca and Elizabeth; Tammy and Bill Watson of Garretson, and their children, Samantha and Cheyene; Jason and Paula Hoogland of Berthoud, Colorado, and their children, Brent, Rachel and Jacob; and Randy and Lisa Hoogland of Garretson, and their children, Kaden and Rylee; three siblings, Jacob (Marg) Hoogland of Nicaragua, Bernard (Cheryl) Hoogland of Longmont, Colorado, and Vonda (Paul) Kooima of Sioux Center, Iowa; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerrit and Henrietta Hoogland; a sister and brother-in-law, Gracia and Jim De Boef; and his father-in-law, Bernard Sandbulte.
