Alice Amdahl

November 16, 1922 — May 24, 2013

ALICE AMDAHL was born to Edward and Frieda (Eickstadt) Radi on November 16, 1922 in Lake Wilson, Minnesota. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Pipestone, Minnesota where she was raised and attended school. After her graduation from Pipestone High School in 1942, she moved to Kansas City, Kansas. Several years later, she returned to Pipestone and worked at the local soda fountain. On February 24, 1948, she was united in marriage to Merle Amdahl in Kansas City. Following their marriage, they lived in Pipestone and Alice worked at Fecker’s Produce for many years. When that business closed, she became employed at Hank’s Foods in the Deli Department until her retirement. Merle preceded her in death on September 23, 1989. After his death, she continued to live in her own home and later moved into Falls Landing Assisted Living Center. When she suffered a stroke this past year, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone where she died on Friday, May 24, 2013 at the age of 90 years, six months and eight days.

Alice was a charter member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Pipestone. She loved quilting and crocheting. She also liked going to the Ewert Rec Center for water aerobics classes. Every Sunday after church, you would usually find Alice at McDonald’s having coffee with her friends. She volunteered her time at the Clothes Closet in Pipestone and also at her church. She and Merle enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Europe and Mexico.

She is lovingly remembered by her three children, Sandra Dagel and her husband Darwin of Holland, Minnesota, Ronald Amdahl of Maple Grove, Minnesota, and Shirly Overlin of Bloomington, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Shirley M. Lang of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her daughter, Linda “Lynn” Brockberg; her son, Greg Amdahl; five brothers, Donald, Harold, Dale, Edward, and Lloyd Radi; and two sisters, Esther Radi and Dorothy Edmundson.
