Alice Emily Jorgensen was born October 16, 1922 to Clarence and Amy (Hansen) Ward in Pipestone, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in Pipestone and attended school there through the 10th grade. Following her education, she helped her family at home caring for her brothers and her sister. On March 29, 1941, she was united in marriage to Irvin Jorgensen in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Their union was blessed with two children and 51 years of marriage together. The couple farmed in Tyler from 1945 to 1946 and then moved to Parker, South Dakota. Two years later, they returned to Tyler and farmed there until 1974. At that time, they moved into Tyler, and Alice worked for many years at the Tyler Hospital. In 1992, Irvin died. After his death, Alice continued to live at their home in Tyler. On September 17, 2011, she died at the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone, Minnesota at the age of 88 years, 11 months, and one day.
Alice was a member of Danebod Lutheran Church in Tyler where she had taught Sunday School and served with the Ladies Aid of Danebod. As a young girl, she loved to roller skate. She enjoyed dancing, and the couple was known to be the best “jitter buggers” around. She played cards and loved her flowers. Her family was most important to her.
Alice is lovingly remembered by her two children, Lana Williams of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Dennis Jorgensen of Tyler, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Jodi (and Brian) Linneman of Loveland, Colorado and Heidi Williams of Pipestone, Minnesota; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Linneman and Kenzie Linneman; two siblings, Dale (and Mavis) Ward of Carlsbad, California, and Marlene (and Clayton) Backer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two sisters-in-law, Sandy Ward of San Diego, California, and Eunice Trout of Gaylord, Minnesota; and one brother-in-law, Wally Jorgensen of Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Irvin; two brothers, Larry Ward and Clarence Ward Jr.; her granddaughter, Lori Anderson; and her great-granddaughter, Kaila Linneman. Blessed be her memory.
