Alice Mary Hind . . .
was born to Lawrence and Edith (Cipperly) Davis on January 10, 1910 in Washta, Iowa. At a young age, she moved to Cushing, Iowa where she was raised and received her education. After her graduation from Cushing High School in 1928, she did housework for several families. On December 24, 1931, she was united in marriage to Willis Hind in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Following their marriage, they farmed north of Pipestone, Minnesota for one year then moved to a farm in Iowa. In 1947, they moved to Lake Benton, Minnesota and one year later moved to Currie. Then three years later, they moved to Slayton for 10 years where they owned a produce and grocery store. After they retired in 1960, they moved to an acreage near Holland, Minnesota. Her husband preceded her in death on October 14, 2000. After his death, she continued to live near Holland. On July 20, 2007, Alice became a resident of the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, Minnesota. On Monday, April 2, 2012, she went to be with her Lord at the age of 102 years, two months and 23 days.
Alice was a member of the Holland Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Women’s Association, serving on various committees. She enjoyed making quilts and she loved to cook. She especially enjoyed planting and harvesting her vegetable garden each year and then canning her produce.
She is lovingly remembered by her son, Everett and his wife Verna Hind of McPherson, Kansas; three grandchildren, Debbie Bailey and her husband Rob of McPherson, Kansas, Carmon Penner and her husband Don of Inman, Kansas and Jeff Hind and his wife Katherine of Tea, South Dakota; Greg Vanasse and his wife Nancy of Delano, Minnesota; 17 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Buck of Colorado and Pat Buck Hanks of Iowa; one brother-in-law, Laveene Larson of Florida; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis; one son, Ronald; one granddaughter, Beven Vanasse; her parents; two sisters; and three brothers.
