ALICE LORRAINE WIESNER SEVERTSON died peacefully on March 25, 2020. She was born on April 22, 1926 to Louie and Agnes (Koppman) Wiesner near Clear Lake, South Dakota, where she grew up in a farming community.
Alice attended the Sioux Valley School of Nursing in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where she received her registered nursing degree in 1947. She worked as a nurse and nursing director in Denver and Fairplay, Colorado, until she married the love of her life, Virgil Severtson, on June 12, 1949. They settled on the Severtson family homestead in Hills, Minnesota, where they farmed until retiring in Pipestone, Minnesota, in 1988. She continued with her nursing career, culminating with her position as Director of Nursing at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills.
Together with Virgil, Alice had a busy life raising their five children. She lived a life that glorified God and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone. She was a Blue Ribbon baker and African violet grower at the Fair, as well as an enthusiastic bridge player and a gifted pianist and organist. She continued working in her nursing profession, well into her eighties, as a nurse consultant for Progress, a day care center for disabled adults.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Severtson; her parents, Louie and Agnes Wiesner; and her sister, Lucille Wiesner King.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Lyndon Severtson of Hills, Minnesota, and her daughters and their husbands: Marie and Ed Crouch of Yorktown, Virginia, Yvonne and Phil Hoffman of Colton, South Dakota, Cynthia and Marc Aldrich of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Teresa and Jon Klosterman of Pipestone, Minnesota; her 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Alice is also remembered by her brother and his wife, Larry and Debbie Wiesner; and many nieces and nephews.
Our family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the staff at the Tuff Memorial Home for their care and compassion shown to Alice these last nine months.
A funeral with a Christian burial will be held at a later date. We request that, in lieu of flowers, any memorial donations be made to the Tuff Memorial Home, in Hills, Minnesota.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hartquist Funeral Home – Pipestone Chapel.
