On February 23, 1949, Alma was united in marriage to Clarence Birchard in Fostoria, Iowa. Over the next years, they would make their home on farms near Fostoria, Everly, Spencer, and Maywood, Iowa from 1975 to 1983. Alma was a homemaker for 26 years.
