ANTHONY W. BOYENGA...
was a child… born to Dennis and Amy (Jenniges) Boyenga on March 25, 1988 in Luverne, Minnesota. He was the last child to enter his family, having three older sisters. He was raised on the family dairy farm ¼ mile west of Ellsworth, Minnesota. Right away as a child, he enjoyed all aspects of farm life, including the land, the animals, the equipment and even the work that went with it (even if he was tricked into completing his sisters’ chores from time to time). Tony attended school in Luverne and graduated from Luverne High School in 2006. He then furthered his education at Ridgewater College in Willmar, Minnesota and graduated from their Production Ag program in 2008. Tony then returned home to join the family farming operation and put his education into practice.

Tony was a husband… with a little luck, Tony’s path in life came to cross Megan Johnson’s path. The two began dating and very soon thereafter it was evident that Megan was the one. With a little helper, Rayden, he had the courage to ask for Megan’s hand in marriage. On March 24, 2012, the couple was united in marriage at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellsworth and made their home on a farm three miles west of town.

Tony was a father… and blessed to raise five beautiful children with Megan. He deeply cared for his children and was ever-present in their lives. Seldom was Tony alone in his work on the farm as most of the time, he had a couple of helpers by his side. His children could be found learning life lessons about hard work through chores, respect for the animals and land, and the value of family connectedness when they enjoyed the never ending fencing and bonfires in the pasture.

Tony was a farmer… and loved every aspect of it! Whether it be time spent with the dairy cattle or time spent in the fields with crops, putting in hard work came easy for him. He particularly enjoyed keeping up and spending time in his pasture. Tony’s real passion in farming came with raising his beef cattle and in 2013, he built and began operating a cattle confinement.

Tony was a blessing to many… he gave of himself to help others. He enjoyed working with and recently was elected Vice President of the Luverne Wrestling Association and served on the Kanaranzi Little Rock Watershed board. He was very compassionate with a strong sense of faith. However, as most of you know, it was impossible to escape his sarcastic and witty teasing. Because of course, only real men make triplets.

On Saturday, June 22, 2019 while he was camping with family and friends at the Rivers Bend Campground near Rock Valley, Iowa, Tony died as a result of a massive heart attack at the age of 31 years, two months and 27 days.

Keeping Tony’s spirit forever alive in their hearts are his wife, Megan; five children, Rayden, Coyer, Hazyl, Levicy and Bronly; parents, Dennis and Amy Boyenga of Ellsworth; siblings, Trista Boyenga of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Kori (Nick) Petersen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Reka (AJ) DeBoer of Sheldon, Iowa; parents-in-law, Dean and Patricia Johnson of Sisseton, South Dakota; sister-in-law, Machenzie (Mike) Wickre of St. Michael, Minnesota; and numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, other family, and friends.
