was born on June 9, 1927 to Theodore and Leona (Nordman) Bofenkemp in Ellsworth, Minnesota. Ardis attended school in Ellsworth until the family moved to Holland, Minnesota. She attended school in Holland and then attended high school in Pipestone, Minnesota, graduating in 1944. Shortly after her graduation, Ardis married Dale Herberg in Pipestone. They had two sons, Paul and Bruce Herberg. A few years later, the family moved to Lester, Iowa. Dale opened a grocery store, and Ardis helped him in this endeavor. Dale sold his grocery store and the couple moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota so that Dale could begin his job as a salesman for Manchester Biscuit Company. After that, the couple moved around the upper Midwest for Dale’s job. The couple eventually separated. Ardis then managed a drycleaners in Sioux City, Iowa. A few years later, Ardis married Carroll “Bill” Wilson in 1962. Not long after their marriage, Bill began working for General Motors, which caused the couple to travel throughout the United States. Bill died suddenly in 1975 from a massive heart attack. After his death, Ardis moved to the Twin Cities area in order to be close to her parents. Upon their passing, Ardis moved to Rochester to be near her son, Paul. After Paul retired from IBM in 2005, he and Ardis moved to Pipestone. At this time, her older son Bruce also moved to the Pipestone area. Ardis began living in her own apartment. She continued to live on her own until her failing eyesight lead her to move into the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. Ardis was then moved to the Pipestone County Hospice House on April 27, 2018. She remained at the hospice house until her passing on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at the age of 91 years, two months and 14 days.
In her younger years, Ardis had a great love of golfing and bowling in local leagues in the various places that she lived. She also enjoyed the volunteer work she was able to do in the Fairview South Hospital while living in the Twin Cities. Ardis’ favorite hobbies were reading, watching television, enjoying movies, and listening to music, especially Strauss.
Ardis is lovingly remembered by her two sons, Bruce (Dorothy) Herberg of Jasper, Minnesota and Paul Herberg of Pipestone; two step-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; and many other loving friends and family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill and her parents.
