AUGUSTA ALICE ROSS was born to Julius and Josephine Marie (Wybouw) Van Leirsberg on December 8, 1923 on a farm in Rosedell Township of Rock County, near Jasper, Minnesota. She was raised on the farm and attended country school in District 41. Upon completion of her education, she helped on the farm. On November 28, 1942, she was united in marriage to Floyd Emery Ross at McChord Field, Washington. Following their marriage, Augusta remained in Washington with Floyd until he was sent overseas in December, 1943. At that time, she went back to live with her parents on their farm near Jasper. After Floyd’s discharge from the service, they lived and farmed near Jasper. In 1966, they moved to a farm near Pipestone and farmed until their retirement in 1978. Floyd preceded her in death on June 21, 1998. After his death, Augusta continued to live on the farm. In 2013, Augusta moved to the Sunrise Village Assisted Living in Jasper. Due to her failing health, Augusta moved to Ava’s House Hospice in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She remained there until her passing on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the age of 96 years, seven months, and one day.
Augusta was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. She was currently a member of St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone where she was active in the CCW. She always had a big garden and enjoyed canning her own produce. She also enjoyed embroidering. Her favorite past-time was playing cards, and she belonged to a couple of card clubs.
She is lovingly remembered by her five children, Judith Jones of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, James Ross of Cottage Gove, Minnesota, Janice Ross of Marshall, Minnesota, Robert Ross of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Daniel Ross and his wife Lynn of Circle Pines, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Doris Stuckenbroker of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Lorraine Melby of Pipestone, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; her son, David Ross; a great-granddaughter, Kali; one daughter-in-law, Sheri; one brother, Arthur Van Leirsberg; a sister, Lucille Fodness; and brothers-in-law, Harry Stuckenbroker and Wally Melby.
