Aurelia Mains

Aurelia Edna Cecilia Mains was born to Ed and Lena (Schlapkohl) Miller on November 24, 1916 on a farm near Jasper, Minnesota where she was raised. She attended school in Jasper. After her high school graduation in 1934, she continued her education at Rochester Junior College in Rochester, Minnesota. She then worked as a secretary in a clinic in Rochester. A few years later, she moved to Pipestone, Minnesota where she became employed at the REA office. On March 29, 1944, she was united in marriage to Raymond Mains at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone. Following their marriage, they farmed for 20 years in Sweet Township of Pipestone County. When the moved to town in 1964, Ray purchased the Quick Wash Laundromat. Aurelia helped with the laundromat, and she was also employed at Dale Butman’s Realty. She later worked in the cafeteria at Pipestone High School. Ray preceded her in death on January 23, 1997. After his death, Aurelia continued to reside in Pipestone. On December 22, 2000, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. She died there on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the age of 100 years, three months and one day.

Aurelia was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jasper. After moving to Pipestone, she became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was active in the WGA and taught Sunday School. She enjoyed fishing with her husband and playing cards. She was also an avid reader.

She is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Karen and her husband Gary Griebel of Pipestone, Minnesota and Lana and her husband Jerry Johnson of Litchfield, Minnesota; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and three brothers, Walter (and Lillie), Albert (and Eileen) and Leonard (and Helen) Miller.
