AVIS NESVOLD was born to James and Blanche (Kallemeyn) Faulkner on June 22, 1919 in Elmer Township near Trosky, Minnesota where she was raised and attended country school through the 8th grade. She then attended Pipestone High School where she graduated in 1936. She went to Mankato Teachers College for two years, graduating with a teaching degree. She returned to the Trosky area and taught in the rural area for the next five years. She then took care of her mother who was in poor health. She was united in marriage to Chester Nesvold in Luverne, Minnesota on December 30, 1945. Following their marriage they resided at her father’s farm which they farmed until the time of their retirement in 1974. They continued to reside on the farm until moving to Pipestone in 1986. In 2005, Avis moved into the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone where she resided until passing away there on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the age of 96 years, nine months, and two days.
Avis was a member of Peace United Methodist Church where she was active in UMW. She enjoyed her volunteer service for over 15 years at the Good Samaritan Communities Village. She was also a member of the Hospital Auxiliary Unit #2 where she was a member for over 15 years. Avis liked to spend her time baking, gardening, quilting, cross stitching, crocheting, and knitting.
Avis is lovingly remembered by her sons, Ronald (Judy) Nesvold of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, Steven (Louise) Nesvold of Hayden, Idaho, and Richard (Nancy) Nesvold of Hutchinson, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Nan Lavonne Lynch of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Avis was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 60 years, Chester; and one sister, Marion Beasley.
