Barbara Davis

BARBARA LYNN DAVIS was born on October 2, 1944 to James and Ora (Mooter) Brown in Rockford, Illinois, where she was raised and received her education, graduating from Auburn High School. She then attended Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois, to pursue a major in music. Barbara was married on May 18, 1968. She traveled extensively overseas and lived in Saudi Arabia and the Philippines. Barbara was a homemaker to their daughters and also owned and operated a jewelry company. She returned to Rockford in 1993. On July 3, 1996 Barbara married Marvin Davis at Spring Creek Congregational Church in Rockford. The couple lived in Rockford where they became members of Trinity Lutheran Church. Marvin passed away on October 12, 2010. In October of 2013, Barbara moved to Brandon, South Dakota to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren. Following a courageous battle with metastasized lung cancer, Barbara passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2015 surrounded by family at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage in Luverne, Minnesota. She was 70.

Barbara was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Throughout her life Barbara was active in volunteer work and was always willing to give of herself to others when she could. She was a member of P.E.O. and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Barbara enjoyed needlepoint, flower gardening, antiques, music and was an avid reader. She loved being a grandma and a good friend. She will be remembered as a faithful woman who was dedicated to her church and family.

Barbara is lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Angela Jameson and Christina Connolly, both of Brandon, and Lisa Boyer of Rockford; three step-children, Joseph Davis and Trina (Kevin) Kretsinger, of Rockford, and Jeffrey (Gabby) Davis of Madison, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, Ben and Abby Foster, Aidan Connolly, Gabriel and Nathanial Davis, Emily Kretsinger, and Jordan and James Boyer; aunt, Betty Shaw of Wichita, Kansas; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Davis; and her parents, James and Ora Brown.
