BARBARA JEAN ANDERSON was born on December 2, 1943 to Earl and Marcella (Plimpton) Brown in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where she was raised and received her education. Barb was united in marriage to Glenn Anderson on April 24, 1961 in Sioux Falls. The couple moved to Ihlen, Minnesota in 1969, where they made their home and began a family. In addition to raising their three sons, Barb helped operate her husband’s trucking business until they both retired in 2008. In July of 2022, Barb was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. On Wednesday, September 28, 2022, she died peacefully surrounded by her family at the Pipestone County Medical Center in Pipestone, Minnesota.
Barb was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Garretson, South Dakota. In her younger years, she enjoyed roller skating and spending time with Glenn at the local roller rink and loved spending time with her family. Barb also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, playing the keyboard, and studying and applying her religion to daily life. She was a collector of angels and eagles. Barb was very proud of the numerous masks she and Karen Johanssen made and provided to various organizations during the covid pandemic. She was also very proud of the blankets that she made for family members and donated to children in Haiti and the church. Later in life, Barb especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which affectionately referred to her as “Granny”.
Barb is lovingly survived by her husband, Glenn; three sons, Glenn, Jr. (Lorel) of Pipestone, Gregory (Marsha) of Jordan, Minnesota, and David of Jasper; four grandchildren, Glenn Anderosn, III (May), Kelly Jo (Michael) DeGroot, Tina Anderson (fiancé, Brandon Mapes), and Tara Jo Anderson; eight great-grandchildren, Caileb, Dexter, Abigail, Aria, Kai, Cayden, Alejandro and Leslye; mother, Marcella Brown of Pipestone; sister, Marie Schwebach of Adrian, Minnesota; special friends, Amy Benda, Dick Rose and family, Karen Johanssen; and other family.
