Barton John Rieck was born on August 7, 1955 to Marvin and Virginia “Peggy” (Bergin) Rieck in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He attended Jasper Elementary and High School, graduating in 1973. He then attended Worthington Junior College where he met many friends that he kept throughout his life. He moved to Sioux Falls to work for the Gage Brothers. Farming was his life dream. He came back to Jasper, Minnesota and worked for Gary Winter on his farm. He then worked for Tri State Silo in Jasper. In September of 1976 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Cindy Swenson. After their marriage, Bart farmed for Kenny Nelson until his father decided to retire. Bart then took over the farm that had been in the Rieck name for 100 years. For the last 17 years Bart worked for LG Everist in Dell Rapids, South Dakota. Bart enjoyed hunting with his family, watching his Vikings and many other sports, winning big at the casino, and spending time with his family. He was diagnosed with cancer four years ago. He fought as the Duke would but on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 he passed away with his family by his side at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Bart is lovingly remembered by his wife, Cindy, of Jasper; his children, Erica (Travis) Rowley of Superior, IA, Christopher (Elena) Rieck of Pipestone, MN, Craig (Nicki) Rieck of Jasper, and Nick (Kari) Matson of Jasper; 12 grandchildren, Isaiah Thompson, Briar Rowley, Parker Rowley, Tarynn Blaue, Jordon Matson, Sienna Rieck, Ellie Rieck, Angelica Rieck, Josif & Abby Rieck, Taj Rieck, and Kailee Rieck; and two great-grandchildren, Harley Rieck and Theodore Krapf. He was preceded in death by his parents; Marvin and Peggy Rieck; sisters, Rita Severson and Ruth Matson; his mother- and father-in-law, Kenneth and Betty Swenson; two brothers-in-law, Daniel and Randy Swenson; son-in-law, Brandon Thompson; and his brother from another mother, Dean Gunderson.
Bart's Famous Quote was "I treat my body as a temple, I only put in there what it needs."
