Betty Deschepper

March 4, 1932 — February 14, 2019

BETTY PEARL DESCHEPPER was born to Fred W. and Florence Viola (McEnaney) Dickey on March 4, 1932 on a farm near Woodstock, Minnesota. She was the eighth of nine children; Freida, Frances, Edith, Ruby, Gene, Vernon, Joyce, and Shirley. Betty attended country school near Woodstock. In her younger years, she worked at the Sid and Min café as a waitress, where she met Robert. Betty married Robert Joseph DeSchepper Jr. on June 30, 1951. In 2001 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with all family members in attendance. Bob and Betty farmed the family farm east of Jasper, Minnesota. They lived on the farm until the house was hit by lightning in 1989, then they moved into Jasper. She became a resident of Sunrise Assisted Living on January 1, 2009. On May 18, 2017, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. On Thursday, February 14, 2019, Betty passed away at the age of 86 years, 11 months, and 10 days.

Betty was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper where she was active with the ladies group.  She was a hardworking farm wife; she did chores and helped in any way she could, including feeding her beloved cats.   She enjoyed making crafts, puzzling, playing BINGO and playing cards with family and friends. Her sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her. Betty was a great listener who could always be counted on for words of encouragement. During their life together, Bob and Betty loved their trips to Duluth. She was a gallivanter at heart, going on country drives and all over, just to go somewhere.  Betty and her Merc could never resist the allure of a good rummage sale.

Betty is survived by her children, Susan (Boyd) Dahms of Rudd, Iowa, Diane (late husband, Daniel) Paulson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Victoria (Craig) Oye of Tyler, Minnesota, William (Susan) DeSchepper of New London, Minnesota, and Chuck (Colette) DeSchepper of Jasper; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and sister, Shirley Debates of Jasper. She was preceded in death by her husband, of 57 ½ years, Bob; one child, Julie Marie; her parents, Fred and Florence Dickey; and siblings, Freida Terhark, Frances Adams, Edith Marquardsen, Ruby Hansen, Gene Wittrock, Vernon Dickey, and Joyce Hansen.
