Bill Carson

WILLIAM 'BILL' MICHAEL CARSON was born August 13, 1941 at Ashton Memorial Hospital to Kenneth “Kit” and Ordy (Michael) Carson. He was raised on the Carson Family Farm, Troy Township, Pipestone, MN; baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church, Pipestone. Bill attended school at the country school one mile north and mile west of the family farm through the 8th grade and then attended school at Pipestone Central School. Bill was a member of the Troy Toilers 4-H Club, winning many awards while showing livestock throughout the area. In his younger years, Bill also loved competing in horse shows. In December, 1963, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in December,1965, and returned to the family farm. On August 8, 1970, he was united in marriage to Terry Eichhorn at the First Presbyterian Church, Pipestone. Along with farming, Bill was a relief rural mail carrier, worked at Wilson Mfg. Co. and Ellison Meats. Bill lived on the Carson Century Family Farm for almost 71 years before moving into Pipestone in July, 2012. Bill and Terry raised two sons, Brad and Jon, and spent many years active in the Troy Toilers 4-H Club.

Bill was a very social person, loving to visit with everyone. He was so proud to have hosted a Century Farm Celebration in 2008. Bill was a past member of the Pipestone County Pork Producers, a past member of the Pipestone County Fair Board, and a past member of the Pipestone Gun Club, and the Pipestone Shifters Car Club. He was a life member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pipestone and a member of the Michael Boock American Legion Post 6 and the Pipestone VFW Post 3814.

In their retirement, Bill and Terry loved traveling. They enjoyed being active with their church and working with the Pipestone County Food Shelf. Bill was a very proud grandpa and above all he and Terry enjoyed attending their grandchildren’s programs and sporting events.
Bill was diagnosed with Central Nervous System Lymphoma in September, 2012. He successfully completed his treatments and was undergoing tests in preparation for a stem cell transplant when during a stress test at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls he collapsed and died.

Bill is lovingly remembered by his wife Terry, and children, Brad and Kris, and their children Taylor, Matti and Cassi, and Jon and Dawn and their children Mitchel and Morgyn; his sisters, Ginny and her husband Ray Evans of Pipestone, Janet and her husband Randy Sievers of Storm Lake, Iowa and Barb Bowman of St Cloud, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his two grandpuppies, Jack and Bella. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Kit (1972) and Ordy (2011); stepdad, Fran Kirby (1991); in-laws, Ike (2006) and Nettie (1982) Eichhorn; and brother-in-law, Glenn Bowman (2012).
