Birch Harvey Myers

Birch Myers, age 100, was born in Ruthton, Minnesota on January 4, 1924. He was baptized September 11, 1927 at the Methodist Church in Ruthton. Growing up in Ruthton, Birch attended Ruthton School. In 1943, Birch enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for three years rising to the rank of Baker Third Class. After his service in the Navy, Birch returned to Ruthton where he met the love of his life, Patricia Ann Kilbride. They were married March 21, 1947 at the Methodist Church in Ruthton. They were blessed with two children, Cindy and Monica. Living in Ruthton Birch took on various jobs such as owning his own restaurant named “Myer’s Café”, building grain elevators for Peevey Elevators, and most recently hauling livestock for local farmers around Ruthton. After Birch retired he was a morning coffee drinker at the Ruthton Mini – Mart before tending to his garden where he loved to grow tomatoes among many other things. When not gardening, Birch could be found spending time with his grandchildren or attending their sporting events. On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, Birch passed away peacefully at Pipestone County Medical Center in Pipestone, Minnesota surrounded by loving family.

Birch is survived by his daughter, Monica (Wayne) Alderson of Ruthton, Minnesota; brother, Norman (Faye) Myers of Cottonwood, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Jeff Alderson, Barry (Katelyne) Alderson, and Heather Alderson; three great-grandchildren, Azalea, Aurora, and Alliance Alderson.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (Kilbride); daughter, Cindy; parents, Earl and Ester (Andersen) Myers; brothers, Virgil, Clarence, Roger and two infant siblings.
