BYRDELLA LAURA ELIZABETH SEVEREID “BIRDIE” was born March 18, 1922 to Carl and Blanche (Thompson) Bruemmer in Pipestone County, Minnesota. She grew up on the farm and attended Pipestone Schools through the 8th grade. She then returned home to help on the farm during the depression years. On November 28, 1942 she was united in marriage to Orville Severeid on a cold winter day at the Lutheran Church Parsonage in Slayton, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they lived on the Severeid family farm. Later, they moved to Herman Nissen’s farm, northwest of Lake Wilson. They remained there until April 1956 when they purchased the family farm. They continued to farm there until November 1985 when they moved to Pipestone, Minnesota. On February 13, 2010 they moved to Ridgeview Estates in Pipestone. In November 2014, she entered Good Samaritan Community of Pipestone. She died there Sunday, October 22, 2017 at the age of 95 years.
Byrdella was a member of Christ the King Free Lutheran Church in Pipestone. She enjoyed volunteering at the Senior Center working ceramics, painting, and photography. She was an excellent baker and had made many special occasion cakes in the community. She enjoyed painting, crocheting afghans, nature photography, and especially time spent with family.
Byrdella is lovingly remembered by her children, Richard (and Annie) Severeid of Lafayette, Colorado, Orvin (and Marge) Severeid of Ennis, Montana, Darrell (and Vicki) Severeid of Pipestone, Minnesota, Leann (and Gary) Vos of Pipestone, Minnesota; grandchildren, Dallas (Kim) Severeid, Dean (Debbie) Severeid, Kyle (Alyssa) Severeid, Brent (Amber) Severeid, Kristie (Mike) Haddock, Toby (Lisa) Vos, and Shane (Linda) Vos; 19 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Esther Bruemmer of Elkton, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville; daughter, Yvonne; grandson, Benjamin Wayne; and two brothers, Dallas and Merle.
