Carl Amundson

Carl Amundson, age 95, passed away on November 12, 2020.

Carl was born in Hadley, MN to Edward Amundson and Ellen Amundson. Carl married Bernice Bladen of Glendale, CA in 1946 in Glendale, CA. He had been honorably discharged after completing his service in the US Navy during World War 2. He was a Survivor of the USS Gambier Bay CVE 73 - that was sunk in the Battle of Leyte Gulf off Samar, Philippines after spending nearly 48 hours in the shark infested waters with his shipmates. He lived most of his life in Southern California with his wife Bernice. After her passing, he moved to Chandler, MN where he resided for the rest of his days. They were very active in the VFW, Elks Lodge and American Legion.

He was preceded in death by Edward O. Amundson (Father), Ellen Amundson (Mother), Bernice Amundson (Spouse), Lou Ann Pistachio (Daughter), Bryan Pistachio (Grandson), Shelley Pistachio (Granddaughter), Edward L. Amundson (Brother), and Betty Fosdick (Sister). He is survived by his long time friend and companion Fran Carlson; his son - Louis Amundson and his wife Madeline of Eagle River, AK; as well as 6 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren. He will be truly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Services for Mr. Carl Amundson will be held some time this Spring of 2021, at Eternal Valley Cemetary in Newhall, CA, with his son, Pastor Louis Amundson officiating, and it will be with Military Honors. Arrangements were entrusted to the Hartquist Funeral Home - Pipestone Chapel. His remains are presently with his family.
