CARLTON “LOUIE” JUNIOR ALLEN was born on November 17, 1927 to Carl and Norma (Gross) Allen in Pipestone, Minnesota where he was raised and attended school. On March 28, 1937, he was baptized at the First Methodist Episcopal Church in Pipestone. At the age of 17, he enlisted into the U.S. Navy. Following his discharge in May, 1946, he began working at Robson Grocery Warehouse in Pipestone. On June 7, 1953, he was united in marriage to Betty Shurtliff at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Pipestone. He continued to work at Robson’s for 31 years as a salesman and manager. In 1975, he became employed at Pepsi Cola Bottling in Pipestone. He began as a route driver, worked in the service department, and as a warehouse worker for 39 years. On May 17, 2014, Louie passed away at the Pipestone County Medical Center at the age of 86 years and 6 months.
Louie spent 30 years with the Pipestone Fire Department as a member of the Hook and Ladder Company. He was also a member of the Michael Boock American Legion Post 6 in Pipestone. He enjoyed fishing and spending time in the garden. He treasured his time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Betty; two children, Randy (Twyla) Allen and Rhonda Schumann, both of Pipestone; one grandson, Cory (Shari) Schumann of Pipestone; one granddaughter, Jennifer Fischer and her special friend, Chuck of Atlantic, Iowa; and 5 great-grandchildren, Austin Edmundson, Trevor and Jada Schumann, Zachary Grimes, and Devin Fischer. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Alice Lange and Marie Quarton; and one brother, Glenn Allen.
