Carol Buller

Carol Rae Buller was born on May 5, 1939, to Raymond “Ray” and Ellen (Bunker) Berg in De Smet, South Dakota. When she was young, she was baptized and confirmed at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in De Smet.

Carol was united in marriage to the love of her life, Hugh Buller, on November 24, 1959, at the St. Peter Catholic Church in Colman, South Dakota. This marriage was blessed with four children, Kevin, Kim, Karen, and Kathy. Carol and Hugh were able to celebrated 59 beautiful years of marriage together before Hugh passed away on September 20, 2016.

In 1962, Carol and Hugh moved to Lake Benton, Minnesota, where Hugh was with Otter Tail Power working as a service representative. During her children’s early years, Carol was a homemaker and loving mother to her children. When her children were old enough to attend school, Carol went to work for various stores in Lake Benton until her retirement in 1994. After retiring, Carol and Hugh would travel to Mesa, Arizona for the winter months; a tradition they continued for eight years.

Carol enjoyed spending time with her children, spending many hours attending school functions, various sporting events and other activities they were involved in. She was a member of St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lake Benton and was very active the church CCW and teaching CCD. She was served as a board member on the Lake Benton Community Library Board and was a Den Mother for the local Boy Scouts. When Carol wasn’t helping with community activities, she could be found either fishing or working in her garden, tending to her flowers she loved. Carol was also fond of a good book, spending many hours reading. Above all, Carol loved being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carol passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024 at the Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Tyler, Minnesota, at the age of 85 years, seven months and five days.

Carol is lovingly remembered by her children, Kevin (Julie) Buller of Sisseton, South Dakota, Kim (Jeff) Frey of Truman, Minnesota, Karen Petersen of Lake Benton, and Kathy Buller (and Steve Wabeke) of Pipestone, Minnesota; her sister, Mary Ellen Flatten of Colman, South Dakota; 11 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Buller; her parents, Ray and Ellen Berg; sister, Darlene Gary; brother, Norbert (Jean) Buller; brother-in-law, Richard Flatten; and son-in-law, Randy Petersen.
