Carol Lynn Heffele was born August 26, 1951 to Darwin Henry Petersen and Marcella June Petersen (Solma) in Tyler, Minnesota. She was baptized October 14, 1951 at First Presbyterian Church in Holland, Minnesota and later confirmed. The family lived in Lake Benton and when Carol was three, they moved to Pipestone, Minnesota where she grew up. She graduated from Pipestone High School in 1969. She then continued her education at Mankato Commercial College receiving education in medical transcription. While at college she met Gary and she graduated in 1970. Carol was united in marriage to Gary Heffele on April 29, 1972 at First Presbyterian Church in Pipestone, Minnesota. Their union was blessed with three children and 45 years of marriage together. The couple made their home in New Hope, Minnesota in the years of 1972-1975. While in New Hope, Carol worked for the University of Minnesota. In 1975, they moved to Lake Benton and later established their home on Lake Benton in 1991. She worked at Tyler Healthcare Center, followed by Dr. Richard Mulder as medical transcriptionist until 1988. She then worked at ACMC in Marshall until her retirement in March of 2013. Carol died peacefully at her home following complications from breast cancer on Monday, December 18, 2017 at the age of 66 years.
Carol was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lake Benton. She enjoyed playing softball, bowling, camping, fishing, travel, and spending time on the lake, but mostly enjoyed anytime with her grandkids and their activities.
Carol is lovingly remembered by her husband, Gary Heffele of Lake Benton, Minnesota; three children, Rochelle (and Travis) Borresen of Tyler, Minnesota, Renae (and Chad) Drake of Marshall, Minnesota, and Reid (and Ashley) Heffele of Brandon, South Dakota; nine grandchildren, Skylar, Gabi, and Brynn Borresen, Kennedy, Reese, and Kellen Drake, Taryn, Natalie and Emerson Heffele; a sister, Linda (and Kent) Claussen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and a brother, David Petersen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Darwin and Marcella Petersen; sisters-in-law, Marjean Mathisted, Loretta Hanson; brother-in-law, Jon DelVecchio; nephews, Rick Koenig and Kevin Mathisted.
