CAROL ANN SCHLIM was born on June 1, 1948 to Larry and Dorothy (Tietge) Beemer in Lake Andes, SD.  She attended school in Lake Andes, graduating from high school in 1966.  She attended Cottey College in Nevada, MO, and then South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1971.  At this time, she moved to Tucson, AZ where she accepted her first position as a Registered Nurse (RN).  In 1972, Carol moved to Denver, CO and then to Colorado Springs, CO where she started a family (Loren Jones) and continued her career as a RN.  In 1981 following Loren’s death, Carol and Nicolas moved to Mitchell, SD where Carol worked as a clinic nurse. In 1983, Carol and Paul Schlim were reunited and the high-school sweethearts were joined united in marriage on October 13, 1983 in Mitchell, SD.  Together they made their home in Lake Andes while focusing on raising their five children.  They remember those years as some of the best years of their lives.  In 1989, the family moved to Jasper, MN and then later, in 1994, the family moved to Pipestone, MN.  While living in Pipestone, Carol worked as a paraprofessional at Brown Elementary, and as a RN with several places including: the Good Samaritan Village, Good Samaritan Home Health Care, as a Nurse Educator with Minnesota West Technical and Community College, and as a Parish Nurse with both the First Lutheran and the United Methodist Churches in Pipestone.   Carol helped develop, create, and lead the parish nursing program.   In 2007, Carol retired and in 2018 the couple moved to Brookings, SD.  She courageously lived with breast cancer for 12 years.  Carol passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at her home in Brookings at the age of 72 years, three months, and 25 days.

Carol was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Brookings and a former member of First Lutheran Church in Pipestone.  She was active with the Cancer Support Group in Pipestone, helping bring peace, comfort, and strength to others.   Carol was the family historian.   She loved telling stories in addition to being the caretaker of family heirlooms. She was passionate about reunions and keeping traditions alive.  Family was everything to Carol.  Carol held a deep faith and love for God.  She shared her faith with all those around her through her actions, unconditional love, and generous heart.   Carol will always be remembered by her loving, gentle and caring spirit.

Carol is lovingly remembered by her husband, Paul, of Brookings; four children, Kristin Schlim of Pipestone, MN, Jeff (Stacy) Schlim of Craig, CO, Tara (Brent) Hendricks of Brookings, SD, and Ande Schlim of Brookings, SD;  nine grandchildren, Anthony, Ashlynn, Angelina, Emagene, Taryn, Maksim, Colton, Jaxon, and Wyatt; two siblings, Janet Bode of Tucson, AZ, and Jon (Grace Cooley) Beemer of Wilmington, NC; one niece, Jill (Eric Klinkowski) Bode; and nephews, Jay (Kat Tom) Bode, and Austin Beemer.  Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Dorothy; one son, Nicolas Schlim; one brother-in-law, Jerry Bode; and one nephew, Creighton Beemer.
