Carolee Kay Luft

CAROLEE KAY LUFT was born on March 4, 1939 to Henry and Johanna (Rosenberg) Untiedt in Ellsworth, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth. She grew up in Kanaranzi, Minnesota and later Luverne, Minnesota where she attended school graduating from Luverne in the Class of 1957. Following her education she worked in retail for many years first for Montgomery Ward and later JC Penney. She was united in marriage to Gary Luft on March 4, 1972. The couple resided in Luverne. In the 1990’s Carolee quit working retail and traveled with Gary and his work. Gary died in 2001. Carolee continued to live in their home in Luverne. On September 12, 2012 she entered Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She died there following health complications on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at the age of 73 years, 7 months, and 3 days.

Carolee was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne. For over 58 years she was active in the life of the congregation. Carolee had served as a church deacon in past years and was currently the chair person coordinating the church prayer chain and the co-chair of the Rebecca Circle. She also enjoyed her volunteer work at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne and the Sanford Hospital in Luverne. Carolee was also a proud member of the “Red Hat” Society in Luverne. She enjoyed games of all kinds, collecting angels, shopping and especially time with her family.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Shawn and husband, Robert Flegel of Willmar, Minnesota and Deb and her husband Steve Hill of Cook, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Stephanie (Brian) Leonard, Stacy (Jake) Koelln, Krystal Hill, Taylor Flegel, and Trenton Flegel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; daughter Tammy; her parents Henry and Johanna Untiedt; two sisters, Joyce Levey and Vanette Mitchell, and her brother, Wayne Untiedt.
