Cary Lee Rosenboom

The man who became Uncle Cary to every child he met, was born Cary Lee Rosenboom on September 14, 1963 to his proud parents Gary and Carolyn (Bebensee) Rosenboom. Cary was born in Mankato, MN and was baptized into the Christian faith at Our Saviors Lutheran Church on Oct. 13, 1963. In March of ‘69, at the age of 5, Cary moved with his parents and sisters to what is now known as The Rosenboom Farm outside of Verdi, MN. Growing up, Cary learned to love the land, animals, and farming. He spent his days with his little sisters and brother exploring every inch of the family farm and his Grandparents’ farm a quarter mile away. He attended St John's Lutheran Church in Lake Benton where he attended Sunday school and was confirmed in 1978.

Cary attended Verdi Public School from kindergarten until he graduated high school in 1982. Throughout his school years, he was involved in a variety of school and community activities. He enjoyed participating in many sports including cross country, football, basketball, and track, as well as both the Verdi and church softball teams. Other school activities he was involved in were Declam and school plays. Cary was an active member in the Verdi-Go-Getters 4-H Club. Saturday nights he could often be found playing cards with friends. They always loved a good game of poker.

After high school, Cary attended Worthington Community College where he played college football. Upon completing his time at WCC, he moved back to the farm to help his dad. Over the years, Cary became a jack of all trades. He worked at the Elkton Mushroom Plant, helped on various local farms, and ran the cattle operation on the family farm until his passing.

Cary was always on hand to help whoever needed him. He truly had a servant’s heart. Cary served unofficially and then officially on the cemetery board. He always put his heart into every task. Being a lifelong 4-Her and his love of the fair lead him to serve on the Lincoln County Fair Board. He always enjoyed working alongside others. He helped build and pull the Verdi Community Float every year.

During his childhood, the family grew by two brothers, Peter and Wolfgang. These foreign exchange students from Germany quickly became forever family. When Cary was 16, he traveled, alone, to Germany to visit his German brothers and their families. He enjoyed exploring the country his ancestors came from and even learned to tolerate rice. For over 25 years, Cary hosted a group of friends for a weekend of hunting pheasants, playing poker, eating great food and drinking beer. This was one of his favorite times of the year. Cary had a wonderful sense of humor that both adults and children loved. He could lighten any situation with his one liners, great smile, and laugh. Cary was a lifelong Twins fan.

Cary will be dearly missed by all of his nieces and nephews. No matter what they were involved in Cary would always be found at their events. From dance to track, and plays to concerts Cary would be at them all. They were always a number one priority in his life. Love you Cary, weehoo!

Cary leaves behind his mother, Carolyn Rosenboom, Verdi, sisters, Cami (Jim) Nichols, Tracey (Ivan) Kuhlman and his brother Torey (Lisa) Rosenboom. His beloved nieces and nephews, Michelle and Stephanie (Goddaughter) Kuhlman, and Aidan, Logan, Kaitlyn and Emily Rosenboom. His German brothers Peter and Wolfgang. His adopted siblings from the Reynolds and Fruechte families. Sonia, Max, Zoe, Bree, Ian and Ella Reynolds and too many others to name who called him Uncle Cary. His aunts, uncles, cousins and his many hunting buddies and fair board friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Rosenboom, grandparents, Dorothy and Elmer Rosenboom, Harry and Lillian Bebensee, and niece, Tiffany Kuhlman.
