Charles S. Herreid

November 12, 1939 — July 12, 2015

CHARLES STEPHAN HERREID was born on November 12, 1939 to Paul and Stella (Anderson) Herreid in Luverne, Minnesota, where he was raised. He graduated from Luverne High School in 1957 and then entered the United States National Guard where he spent the next seven years fulfilling his commitment. Charlie moved to Worthington, Minnesota where he first drove milk truck for Walt Febus and later worked for Culligan. He then became employed by the City of Worthington for many years. Charlie was united in marriage to Betty Westra and the couple was blessed with three children, Jill, Todd and Julie. The couple later divorced. In the early 1980s, Charlie became employed in the waste water treatment facility for the City of Arnolds Park, Iowa. Charlie met and later married Sandy Evaro. The couple made their home near Arnolds Park. In the early 1990s, Charlie underwent a battle with cancer and was forced to retire. He continued to remain active with small jobs when he was able and especially enjoyed mowing yards. Sandy died in December 1995. Charlie moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for a short time and then moved to an acreage near Madison, South Dakota for a few years. In 2008 he moved to Windom, Minnesota to be near family. In late June 2015, Charlie moved to the Good Samaritan Home in Jackson, Minnesota where on Sunday, July 12, 2015 he died peacefully at the age of 75 years and eight months.

Charlie was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved trap shooting in his younger years and shot a number of years for the Culligan team in Worthington. He also enjoyed riding motorcycle and trail riding on his favorite horse, Brumby. Charlie was a good father who had a great sense of humor and enjoyed having a conversation with anybody.

Charlie is survived by his two children, Jill Herreid of Worthington and Todd Herreid of Windom; sister, Carolyn Tofteland (Bob Pendergraft) of Brandon, South Dakota; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Stella Herreid; and an infant daughter, Julie.
