CHERI L. ROEMELING was born on December 30, 1975 to Jack and Lynnette Roemeling at the Luverne Community Hospital in Luverne, Minnesota. Most of her childhood years were spent on the family’s acreage near Kanaranzi, Minnesota. She then moved to Pipestone, Minnesota and later lived in Windom, Minnesota where she resided at a group home through Habilitative Services, Inc. She graduated from Windom High School in 1997. Following graduation, Cheri moved to the Fairway House in Luverne where she lived for the next 15 years. During this time she worked at Rock County Opportunities (RCO) in Luverne where she enjoyed doing handiwork, most recently making jewelry with the assistance of the staff. Due to Cheri’s continuing health decline, she transitioned to the RAI home in April of 2013. Here she died peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the age of 37 years, five months, and five days.
Cheri was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Luverne. She loved rocking and sitting outside swinging, listening to country music and watching CMT. Spending time with family and friends was very important to Cheri, and she also enjoyed going for rides during nice weather. Some of her favorite foods were pizza, ice cream and dill pickles. While she was able to, Cheri loved to go for walks, and swim and splash in the water at the pool. She enjoyed playing with colorful decks of cards and watching the fish in her aquarium. Cheri had a wonderful smile, an infectious laugh and a great sense of humor. She was dearly loved by her family, caretakers, and her fellow coworkers at RCO.
Cheri is lovingly remembered by her parents, Jack Roemeling (girlfriend, Karen Boehrns, Sioux Falls) of Luverne, and Lynn Roemeling (fianc, Dean Lechner) of Sioux Falls, SD; two brothers, Chad Roemeling, his wife, Jayni, and their son, Riley of Spencer, IA; Christopher Roemeling of Brownsville, TX; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. A special cousin, Jessy Behr of Luverne was instrumental in Cheri’s daily life, taking her to many family functions and activities. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Everette and Donna Behr and John and Viola Roemeling; three uncles, Roger Behr (in infancy), Rick Roemeling and Jim Roemeling; an aunt, Dorothy Roemeling: and a cousin, Michael Hermeling.
