Clara Augusta Hinz was born to Wihlelm and Laura (Duwe) Grimnitz on March 27, 1913 on the family farm in Elmer Township of Pipestone County, Minnesota where she was raised and attended school in District #69. Upon completion of her education, she helped on the family farm. On April 18, 1936, she was united in marriage to Louis Hinz at the Methodist Church in Pipestone, Minnesota by Rev. E. C. Reinke. Following their marriage, they farmed in Elmer Township. Clara helped on the farm, and she did domestic chores for neighbors. She also worked in the Pipestone Indian School Hospital. In 1974, they retired from farming. They continued to live on the farm until October, 1993, when they moved into Pipestone. Louis preceded her in death on January 16, 1994. After his death, Clara continued to reside in Pipestone until her death on Friday, June 20, 2014 at the age of 101 years.
Clara was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone where she was active in the United Methodist Women and her church circle. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America Lodge, the Rebecca Lodge, the Pipestone Senior Center, the Happy Helping Hands Club, and the Birthday Club. She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of a 500 and a Pinochle Card Club.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Joann Pederson and her husband Lawrence of Danbury, Wisconsin; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Donald who died September 28, 1990; her parents; two brothers, Walter and John Grimnitz; and three sisters, Edna Kuiper, Anne Grimnitz, and Esther Hofsommer.
