Cynthia Katherine Oye was born to Milo and Joanne (Brouillet) Otkin on April 30, 1955 in Pipestone, Minnesota where she was raised and attended school. After her graduation from Pipestone High School in 1973, she attended Pipestone Vocational School in Fashion Merchandising and graduated in 1974.  On May 4, 1974, she was united in marriage to Ronald Lee Oye at the Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone.  They resided in Pipestone until 1982 when they moved to an acreage in Aurora, South Dakota.  She became employed at 3M in Brookings, South Dakota and worked there from September 1991 through March 2012 when she retired after 21 years.  On May 4, 2023, Cindy became a resident at United Living Community in Brookings, South Dakota where she died on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at the age of 68 years.  

Cindy was a member of Aurora United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She was also secretary of UMW, PPRC, lay leader and a member of the quilting club. When she was a young child, she spent a lot of time at her grandmother’s house in Verdi, Minnesota.  She was very active in attending and helping out with the South Dakota Special Olympics. In 2003, Cindy went to Ireland to the world special Olympics games to support her son. She was creative with planning and organizing special events and birthdays and made the birthday cakes for her kids and grandkids.   Cindy also enjoyed going to horse shows to support her daughter, Christina and attended go cart races to support her son Joesph. She enjoyed attending each grandchild’s extracurricular activities. She loved taking care of her family and her grandchildren were her life.  

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Ronald Oye of Aurora, South Dakota; her children, Joseph Oye and his wife Miriam of Tea, South Dakota, Christina Kling of Cottonwood, Minnesota and Ricky Oye of Aurora, South Dakota; grandchildren, Corey and Brandon Kling, Daniel, Matthew and Summer Oye; one brother, Mike Otkin and his wife Mary of Colman, South Dakota and their sons, Josh Otkin and Jeremy Otkin; and step-dad, Hank Luehmann of Luverne, Minnesota.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Milo Otkin and JoAnne Luehmann and one brother, Ronald Otkin.
