Dale Stevens

DALE ROGER STEVENS was born on January 13, 1935 to George and Lynda (Risting) Stevens in Slayton, Minnesota. He was baptized in the Presbyterian Church. Dale was raised in Lake Wilson and Holland, Minnesota where he received his education, graduating with the Pipestone Class of 1952. In 1954, Dale enlisted with the United States Marine Corps, where he served in the Korean War and was later honorably discharged. On January 8, 1954, Dale was united in marriage to LeeAnn Kindt in Hardwick, Minnesota. They made their home in Pipestone, Minnesota. To this union, seven children were born. Dale held numerous jobs including: Hick’s Motor Company, school bus driver for Priester Bus Service, home milk delivery for Oak Grove Dairy, Dale’s Sanitation, Shaffer Oil, and as Head Custodian at Pipestone Vocational School until his retirement in 1997. After his retirement, Dale and LeeAnn moved into the Storybrook Apartments and served as managers. In February of 2012, Dale moved into the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. On January 8, 2015, on their 61st wedding anniversary, Dale was admitted into the Pipestone County Medical Center where he died, two days short of his 80th birthday, on January 11, 2015.
Dale was a member of the Hiawatha Club, the Pipestone Fire Department for 25 years, the Lions Club of which he was a member of the clown club, the Arrow Club, the PAS Hall of Fame Committee, the Pipestone Indians Baseball Team serving as manager and player, the Holland Baseball and Fast Pitch Softball teams, and the High School Football Chain Gang. Dale was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone. He enjoyed any sporting event, especially ones involving his children and grandchildren. Dale was recognized by the Minnesota State High School League Athletic Director’s Association for his countless hours of volunteer work with high school athletics. He loved golf, and was an avid card player, his favorite game being pinochle. Dale never missed an opportunity to enjoy morning coffee at Lange’s Caf or spend time with his family.
Dale is survived by his loving wife LeeAnn, of Pipestone; children: Bryce Stevens of Pipestone, David (Kim) Stevens of Hayward, Wisconsin, Carol (Clarence) Rasmussen of Alexandria, Minnesota, Sandy (Greg) Nelson of Pipestone, Rick (Jean) Stevens of Becker, Minnesota, Lynda (Mike) Petersen of Slayton, Minnesota, and Kristi (Erick Swanson) Stevens of Parkers Prairie, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois Roen of Edina, Minnesota; two nieces and one nephew. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lynda Stevens; an infant baby brother; one sister, Betty Jacobson; two nephews: Randy Jacobson and Thomas Van Engelenhoven; one grandson, Justin Stevens; his mother and father-in-law, Fritz and Gladys Kindt; and one brother-in-law, Tony Van Engelenhoven.
