DARLENE ROSE BOISEN was born on March 27, 1931 to Edward and Augusta (Krenz) Friday in Ida Grove, Iowa. She was raised in Estelline, South Dakota and later graduated from high school. She then moved to St. Louis, Missouri, and later to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where she took job as a bank teller. While attending a dance at the Arkota Ballroom in the spring of 1952, Darlene met Jarvis Boisen and the two began dating. On September 7, 1952, the couple was united in marriage at Zion Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. They made their home in Luverne, Minnesota and Darlene went to work as a teller at First National Bank. She also did the bookkeeping for her husband’s business, Jarv’s Auto Service. In addition to her professional career, Darlene raised and cared for their three sons, Ron, Gary and Alan. In later years, Darlene worked for Tri-State Insurance. During her retirement years, she remained very active volunteering throughout the community and caring for their parents. She and Jarv also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad a few times. In August 2015, the couple moved to The Oaks senior living apartments in Luverne. In December 2017, Darlene became a resident at the Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne, where on Thursday, April 25, 2019, she went to be with her Lord at the age of 88 years and 28 days.
Darlene was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she belonged to Circle, was active in quilting and served many years as a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Luverne Fire Department Auxiliary and volunteered with the Luverne ‘Meals on Wheels’ program. Darlene enjoyed working with her hands and through the years used them in knitting, crocheting, gardening and pottery. She also enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Darlene was a devoted Christian and gave of herself through volunteerism to her community, family and friends. She will be remembered for her good hearted nature, great cooking talents and being a wonderful mother and grandmother to her family. Her spirit will continue to live well in the hearts of many.
Darlene is lovingly survived by her husband of 66 years, Jarv; three children, Ronald (Suzanne) of Anchorage, Alaska, Gary (Soheyla) of Laguna Beach, California, and Alan (Amy) of Red Wing, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Sarah, Christa, Rachel, Carly and Daniel Boisen; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Matthew Boisen; parents, Edward and Augusta; and a brother, Arthur Friday.
