Darlene Doering

DARLENE DOERING was born on March 21, 1941 in Parkston, South Dakota to Theodore and Selina (Tiede) Juhnke. She attended school in the Parkston area and later worked as a baby sitter and part time at Dairy Products Inc. She met Marvin Doering at the dairy plant and the two began a courtship. On August 27, 1961 Darlene was united in marriage to Marvin at the United Church of Christ in Parkston. The couple moved to Luverne, Minnesota in the fall of 1967. Darlene began her career at the Mary Jane Brown Nursing Home in 1968 where she worked in the laundry department. She retired 33 years later in 2001. On January 27, 2014 Darlene moved into the Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne where she died peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 27 days.

Darlene was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne. She sang in the chancel choir, and taught Sunday school for many years. Darlene also belonged to a ladies church circle and volunteered on Fridays folding bulletins. She really enjoyed helping other people. Darlene loved to crotchet afghans and give them away. In her free time she also liked playing cards and putting puzzles together. She and Marv were regulars at the Luverne Fitness Center and enjoyed the company of others there too. Darlene was a self-described 'die hard' fan of both the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings.

Darlene will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Marvin of Luverne, Minnesota; a brother, Clinton and his wife Nadine Juhnke of Parkston, South Dakota; a sister, Marjean and her husband Jim Apland of Bel Air, Maryland; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Selina and Theodore Juhnke; and a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Delphine Juhnke.
