Darrel I. Denney was born August 28, 1931 to Ralph and Vivian (Ramsey) Denney on a farm in Petersburg Township, Jackson County, Minnesota. He was baptized in the Presbyterian Church in Alpha, MN. He grew up on the farm and attended Alpha Public School and Jackson (MN) High School, graduating in 1949. On December 17, 1950 Darrel married Beverly Musegades in Trinity Lutheran Church in Alpha, Minnesota. Their union was blessed with four children and 67 years of life together. He entered the U.S. Army in January 1951 and was honorably discharged in September 1953. Following his discharge he went to work for Cargill, working in Windom and Breckenridge, Minnesota and Hankinson, North Dakota before moving to Lennox, South Dakota. There he joined Golden Sun Feeds for 22 years. In 1969 the couple moved to Tyler, Minnesota. In 1986 he became a bus salesman for Olson & Johnson, retiring in 1995.
Darrel was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Tyler where he sang in the choir and served on the church council. He was a member of A.C. Hansen American Legion Post #185 in Tyler. He had served as both Councilman and Mayor of Tyler, as Lake Shore Zoning Administrator, on the Tyler School Board, Danebod Village Board, ECSU Board at Southwest State University in Marshall, Minnesota, and the Southwest Minnesota Regional Development Corporation. He was also a member of the Tyler Kiwanis Club.
Darrel is lovingly remembered by his wife, Beverly; his children, Terry (Debra) Denney of Ridgecrest, CA, Lori (Mike) Stewart of Sioux Falls, SD, Scott (Rhonda) Denney of Sioux Falls, SD, and Todd (Nicole) Denney of Forsyth, IL; 7 grandchildren, Aimee (Trent) Urban, Brice (Kassandra) Denney, Michaela Denney, Larisa Denney, Logan Denney, Kieran Denney, and Megan (Derek) Johnson; 5 great-grandchildren, Gavin, Alex, and Rylan Urban, Ayleah Moore, and Liam Johnson; step-siblings, Burnell (Glennis) Bacon of Tucson, AZ and Ione Grouwe of Midland, TX; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Vivian Denney; stepmother, Ethel Denney; and sister and brother-in-law Ardyth and Marvin Ford.
