Darrel J. Wessels

DARREL JOE WESSELS was born on August 19, 1942 to Fred and Jennie (Bergman) Wessels in Luverne, Minnesota. His childhood home was near Ash Creek, Minnesota and he attended school in Luverne, graduating from Luverne High School in 1960. Following school he began his employment at A.R. Woods in Luverne. He also served his country in the National Guard from 1962 until 1969. On October 21, 1966 Darrel was united in marriage to Theresa Fursee in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The couple lived in Steen, Minnesota for a year and then moved to Luverne in 1967. Here they made their home and raised their son, Steven. Darrel continued working at A.R. Woods until 1985. He then took a position at Luverne Truck Equipment as maintenance foreman from 1985 until his retirement in May of 2007. In November 2011 Darrel moved to the Bethany Meadows Memory Unit in Brandon, South Dakota and was later transferred to Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, Minnesota where he passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the age of 70 years, 1 month and 24 days.

Darrel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne where he served as an usher, deacon and on various church committees. He enjoyed woodworking and being outdoors. He loved to fish and hunt.

Darrel is lovingly remembered by his wife, Theresa of Luverne; his son, Steven Wessels and his wife April of Sioux Falls; two grandchildren, Ashtin and Camdyn; his siblings, Norman (Joyce) Wessels of Luverne, Enore Boelman of Luverne, Stanley (Gert) Wessels of Ellsworth, MN, Phyllis (Donald) Schouwenburg of Luverne, Lowell Wessels of Ash Creek, Iva (Ed) Elbers of Luverne, Harold Wessels of Luverne, David (Bev) Wessels of Luverne, and Doug (Ginny) Wessels of Hardwick; and other family. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Vernice Wessels; brother, Dale Wessels; sisters-in-law, Sharon Wessels and Jolene Wessels; brother-in-law, Edwin Boelman; and a niece, Kristina Martinez.
