Darrell Eugene Smith

DARRELL SMITH was born July 16, 1942 to Ray and Adeline (Gehlsen) Smith in Slayton, Minnesota. Darrell was baptized on October 4, 1942 at Iona Presbyterian Church and later confirmed First Presbyterian in Holland, Minnesota. In 1960, Darrell graduated from Ruthton High School. Following his education, Darrell worked for Robert Legler hauling milk. Darrell was united in marriage to Judy (Johnson) on August 27, 1966 at Holland Presbyterian Church. Their union was blessed with two children, Todd and Terry, and 51 years of marriage together. The couple made their home in Pipestone, Minnesota for 46 years. Darrell worked for Fey’s in Edgerton, Viking Van in Flandreau, and CHS in Ruthton from which he retired in 2010. Darrell entered the care of Pipestone County Medical Center on Saturday, April 28, 2018 and died there on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at the age of 75.

Darrell was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Holland and served on the trustee board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially time with his grandchildren.

Darrell is lovingly remembered by his wife, Judy of Pipestone; sons, Todd (and Justine) Smith of Pipestone, Terry (and Kayla) of Pipestone; grandchildren, Ian Wentzel (and fiance Brittany Ference), Casey (and Alan) Preteau, Brandon Smith, Zach Smith, and Raleigh Smith; brother, Rodney Smith of Pipestone, Minnesota. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Adeline; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Al and Katie Johnson.
