DAVID JON JANSEN was born to Virgil and Geneve (Berkness) Jansen on June 5, 1957 in Lakefield, Minnesota. He was raised in Luverne, Minnesota where he received his education. Prior to starting his senior year in high school in 1975, he moved with his parents to Canada. After a few years he returned to Pipestone, Minnesota. At that time, he entered the meat cutting course at the Pipestone Vocational Technical School. On June 29, 1985, he was united in marriage to Teresa DeZeeuw at First Presbyterian Church in Holland, Minnesota. Following their marriage, David completed the meat cutting course in 1986 and became employed Howard Beef in various positions including quality control. He then began working at Pipestone Grain for several years before his most recent position at Hank's Foods in the meat department. He had to retire from this position in September of 2011 when he was diagnosed with cancer.
David endured all of the challenges he faced with his treatments with a positive attitude. Each day to him was one more day he could be with his family. On November 6th he entered the Doughtery Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota until he passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2013 at the age of 56.
David was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was currently a member of First Lutheran Church in Pipestone. He loved the outdoors; numerous summers were spent camping at Lake Shetek. He instilled his love for fishing and hunting to his sons Matthew and Andrew. His greatest joy was being in the outdoors with them whether it was pheasant or deer hunting or a day out on the lake fishing. Seeing them get their deer or that big fish brought him so much joy and pride. He loved to play cards and many nights during those summers at the lake you would find him playing cards with relatives and friends till all hours. He was an avid Twins and Vikings fan regardless of their record; you would find him watching the game. His greatest memories are those spent with his family; whether it be taking Andrew to his first Twins game at Target field or prairie dog hunting in western South Dakota with Matt. Family was very important to him. His granddaughters, Miley and McKenzie held a soft spot in his heart. He truly enjoyed the time he spent with them and all of the experiences of being their grandfather.
He is lovingly remembered by, Teresa Jansen of Pipestone, Minnesota; his two sons: Matthew Jansen and his wife Rebecca of Edgerton, Minnesota and Andrew Jansen of Pipestone, Minnesota; two granddaughters: McKenzie and Miley; his mother, Gen Jansen of Alexandria, Minnesota; his two brothers: Kevin Jansen and his wife Beth of Alexandria, Minnesota and Paul Jansen of Marshall, Minnesota; and his sister, Lori Adkins and her husband Rick of Rapid City, South Dakota. He is preceded in death by his father, Virgil; and his brother, Brad Jansen.
