David Roland Prosch was born on August 9, 1948 to Donald Edward and Leona Louise (Kohler) Prosch in Tyler, Minnesota. He grew up in Lake Benton, Minnesota, and graduated from Lake Benton Public School in 1966. David served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1969. He was a "Tin Can Sailor" and served aboard the destroyer USS Sproston (DD-577) which homeported at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. While on the Sproston, they deployed to the Western Pacific where the Sproston delivered gunfire support off the coast of Vietnam and provided escort and plane guard duty for aircraft carrier flight operations. Upon his discharge from the Navy, Dave returned to Lake Benton and began his farming career. David was united in marriage to Barbara Meyer on November 14, 1970 at Grace Lutheran Church in Lake Benton. Their union was blessed with two daughters. David enjoyed living and working on the farm. He also drove semi for many years before and after his retirement.
In the last month, David entered the M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He passed away there on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at the age of 74 years, seven months, and 27 days.
David was a member of the REA Board in Tyler and was a current member of the Henry Sollie American Legion Post #10 in Lake Benton. He had a passion for collecting and restoring tractors, and also had a large collection of lawnmowers. He had a love for working on old cars and trucks. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
David was quick-witted, funny, and always had a knack for conversation. He had the best memory, enjoyed playing cards, and loved to tell jokes. David could often be found having coffee and visiting with his friends in town. Whenever you would see him, he always had a diet Coke in his hand and a smile on his face.
He is lovingly remembered by his life partner, Barb Prosch of Lake Benton; two daughters, Janet (Russ) Sons of Chaska, Minnesota, and Jennifer (significant other, Joe Seeman) Holmlund of St. Peter, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Jordan and Jackson Holmlund, Danielle, Emily, and Kaeden Sons; and three siblings, Deanna (Gerry) Hoffman of Pipestone, Minnesota, Arnold (Marcella) Prosch of Dubuque, Iowa, and LaDon (Julienne) Prosch of Lake Benton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Leona Prosch and one sister, Audrey Schlimmer.
