Dawn Loree Sturn was born July 30, 1955 to Orville and Irene Erickson in Tyler, Minnesota and grew up on the farm in Florence, Minnesota. Dawn was baptized and confirmed at Opdal Lutheran Church in Florence. She attended Florence elementary school and graduated from Tyler High School in 1973. Following her education, she worked various jobs in the area and was self-employed in child day care. In 1978, she was united in marriage to Howard Barber and their union was blessed with two sons, Dustin and Tony. In June of 1995 she married David Sturn in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The couple lived in St. Cloud and in 2005 moved to Florence. In 2015, Dawn retired due to declining health. On July 27, 2017 she entered the care of Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She died there Friday, July 28, 2017 at the age of 61 years.
Dawn will be remembered as a kind person of generosity and hospitality. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, baking apple pies, canning, and especially time spent with her family and friends.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Dave Sturn of Florence, Minnesota; sons, Dustin (and Sandra) Barber of Larimore, North Dakota, and Tony (and Reba) Barber of Marshall, Minnesota; grandchildren, Cadence, Jake, Caleb, and Zane; siblings, Allen (and Mary) Erickson of Russell, Minnesota, Bernie (and Kathy) Erickson of Bemidji, Minnesota, and Brian (and Jessie) Erickson of Marshall, Minnesota; other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Irene; a sister, Gloria Wieme; brother-in-law, Richard Wieme; and nephew, Roman Wieme.
Blessed and eternal be the memory of Dawn Sturn.
