Delmar William Tiedeman was born July 28, 1940 to William and Nellie (Dickman) Tiedeman on a farm north of Boyden, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of rural Hull, Iowa while growing up on a farm northwest of Hull. He attended country school and then graduated from high school in Hull in 1958. He worked in manufacturing in Orange City, Iowa for two years. On August 31, 1962 Delmar married Martia Dodson in Rock Valley, Iowa. Their union was blessed with five children and fifty years of life together. In 1960, Delmar began working for the Hull Creamery. In 1973, the family moved to Lake Benton where he owned and operated Tiedeman Milk Hauling until 1991. He was always farming and raising calves. He began working at Schwan’s in 1992, retiring in 2003. In retirement he continued raising calves and gardening. On Friday, May 10, 2013Delmar passed away at Tyler Healthcare Center at the age of 72 years, 9 months, and 12 days.
Delmar was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake Benton, where he had served as an elder and in other areas of the congregation. He enjoyed raising cattle, gardening, woodworking, and watching sports, being a fan of the Vikings, Twins, NASCAR, and bull riding. He especially enjoyed time spent with grandchildren and the rest of the family.
Delmar is lovingly remembered by his wife, Martia; his children, Randy (Diane) Tiedeman of Flandreau, SD, Chris (Tony) McChesney of Russell, MN, Myron (Kathy) Tiedeman of Storm Lake, IA, Michael (Sharlyn) Tiedeman of Lake Benton, MN, and Kim Tiedeman (special friend Scott) of Tyler, MN; 14 grandchildren, Dustin, Charis, Missy, Tyler, Amy, Jared, Grant, Ethan, Anna, Brett, Andrew, Kasie, Tyson, and Kaylie; 9 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Ann) Tiedeman of Hull, IA; three sisters, Evelyn Bakker of Sioux Center, IA, ElDoris (Art) Dykstra of Hull, IA, and Shirley (Lanny) Winter of Boyden, IA; brother-in-law Terry (Bunny) Dodson of Spencer, IA; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers-in-law, Bernie Bakker and Wayne Kruse.
