DELORES MULLIGAN was born on February 21, 1936 to George and Lil (Pagler) Tammen in Le Mars, Iowa during a blizzard snowstorm. She was raised on a farm near Craig, Iowa and attended St. John’s Lutheran Church. She completed country school through the eighth grade and then graduated from Ireton High School in Ireton, Iowa in 1954. She then worked as a waitress at a local café in addition to attending post-secondary schooling. While working, Delores met John “Jack” Mulligan and on February 16, 1957, the couple was united in marriage at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City, Iowa. She and Jack then moved to Luverne, Minnesota. Delores continued waitressing and worked at Long’s Café, Gert’s Café and Kenny’s Supervalue. She then accepted a position working with tax accounting with H & R Block. In 1985, Delores and Jack moved to an acreage near Steen, Minnesota. She later would retire formerly from working, but then began volunteering full-time in the community.
On Thursday, September 19, 2019, Delores passed away at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Delores was currently a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne, where she enjoyed helping with whatever she could. She was active in the Rock County VFW and the American Legion Auxiliary for many years, serving as its treasurer. She enjoyed volunteering for many church and community organizations and was very proud of her time devoted to the American Red Cross Blood Mobile and the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. Delores also enjoyed baking, reading and caring for her cats. She will be remembered for always being there to give of herself to her family and friends.
She is lovingly survived by her husband, Jack; four children, Theresa (Everett) Conner of Manchaca, Texas, Mary (Monty) Bullerman of Adrian, Minnesota, Tim (Nancy) Mulligan of St. Charles, Iowa and Chuck (Judy) Mulligan of Bellevue, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
