Deloris Joyce Johansen was born on October 15, 1931 to Albert and Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Friedrichs) Fehrman on the family farm in Ash Lake Township, Lincoln County, Minnesota. She was baptized at the German Lutheran Church in Arco, Minnesota. She grew up on the farm (which happened to be right next door to her future husband's family), and attended Country School at the Arco corner. She then attended Ivanhoe High School, graduating in 1949. Less than a year later she was united in marriage to Gunnar Johansen on Saturday, June 4, 1949 at Danebod Lutheran Church in Tyler. They lived and farmed in Ash Lake Township. In 1954 they moved to a farm in Lake Benton Township, but in 1964 returned to their Ash Lake Township farm. On May 4, 2005, Gunnar preceded her in death and Deloris continued to live on the farm until 2017 when she moved to an apartment in Lake Benton, Minnesota. She lived there for a time and then moved to assisted living in Hendricks, Minnesota. After two years there she moved into the Hendricks Nursing Home in December of 2022. She passed away suddenly there on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at the age of 92.
Deloris was a sweet lady. She loved to bake and cook and provide any of her wares to guests as they stopped by her home. She lived to provide for others. She loved her church family and was active at Grace Lutheran Church in Lake Benton; she helped with funerals, bringing cakes, and with other church events. Through the years she enjoyed the many times folks in the community would gather at different homes for cards, coffee, and great conversation, whether it was on a Sunday evening, or anytime. She was a firm mother, but always had the best in mind for her children, urging them to do their best and work hard. She was a great role model.
Deloris is lovingly remembered by her four children, Diane (Don) Evers of Lake Benton, Minnesota, Gunvar (Randy) Dombek of Ivanhoe, Minnesota, James (Linda) Johansen of Verdi, Minnesota, and Lori Johansen of Athens, Ohio; brother, Wayne Fehrman of Lake Benton, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, Alexus, Heather, Megan, Melinda, Haley, Dane, Matthew, Joseph, and Aaron; three step-grandchildren, Troy, Justin, and Jonah; twelve great-grandchildren, Dontae, Gunnar, Cade, Caleb, Jade, Jerrett, Madison, Marisa, Maxwell, Evelyn, Hazel and Daniel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gunnar Johansen; her parents Minnie and Albert Fehrman; son-in-law, Al Mettler; her foster son, Earl Klitzke; step-father, Peter Gudmundson; and two step-grandsons, Brian Evers and Donny Evers.
Memorials may be directed to the Diamond Lake Cemetery or Grace Lutheran Church.
