Deloris Quissell

Deloris Arlene Quissell was born to Fred and Myrtle (Swanson) Wende on October 6, 1928 in Pipestone, Minnesota. She grew up on the family farm in Troy Township, Pipestone County and attended country school through the eighth grade. She graduated from Pipestone High School in 1946. She worked at the Pipestone National Bank until she married Ardean Quissell on January 17, 1948 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jasper, Minnesota. Following their marriage, the couple made their home on the Quissell family farm in Alliance Township, Moody County, South Dakota, where they raised their five children. Ardean died in 1975. Deloris began her career at the local newspapers, the Jasper Journal and Pipestone County Star in 1967. She worked for four different publishers and held a variety of duties during her 47 year career at the newspaper formally retiring in 2014.

Deloris was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church rural Flandreau, South Dakota, where she served on the church council, was a member of Messiah WELCA, and served as Sunday school superintendent. She served thirty years on the board of the Bethania-Oslo Cemetery Association. Deloris was a member of the Red Rockettes Red Hats and a pinochle card club. She enjoyed bowling, traveling and especially mowing her large acreage and tending to her flowers. She was well known in the area for hosting her annual Christmas tea in her home for over 25 years. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Deloris lived on the family farm until 2019 when she moved to Ridge View Estates in Pipestone, Minnesota. She passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Pipestone County Hospice House at the age of 96 years.

Deloris is survived by her five children, Diane (Alan) Eitreim of Rapid City, Steven (Mary) Quissell of Rapid City, Rosanne (Donald) Waxdahl of Flandreau, Karen (Tom) Reddy of Carmel, California, and Keith Quissell of Brookings; eight grandchildren, Jason and Kelly Eitreim, Brian Quissell and Wende Hughes, Heather and Joshua Waxdahl, and Ryan and Lauren Reddy; eleven great-grandchildren, Bailey, Jacob and Kaleb Eitreim, Lily and Eli Quissell, Tatum and Oakley Hughes, Austin and Marlowe Reddy, and Benjamin and Elijah Reinberg.
