Dennis LeRoy Faaborg was born February 16, 1937 in Tyler, Minnesota to Herluf and Laura (Christensen) Faaborg. He was baptized on April 11, 1937 at Danebod Lutheran Church in Tyler, and later confirmed there on April 1, 1951. Dennis grew up on the family farm and attended school in Tyler, graduating from Tyler High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955 and served three years as an Engineering Equipment Mechanic, and three additional years in the Reserves, being honorably discharged in 1961. On April 28, 1963 Dennis married Jolean Giesler at Danebod Lutheran Church. Their union was blessed with three children and 50 years of life together. The couple moved to California in 1964 where Dennis showed his adaptability by working in construction, the rice harvest, tool and dye work, at a milk plant, and on a dairy farm. In 1970 they moved back to Marshall for a year before moving to the Christensen farm, his mother's home, to be dairy farmers. As a farmer, Dennis developed a great respect for God's creation, which led him to be a concerned steward of the land and livestock, and an advocate of organic food production. After retiring from farming, he worked at Tyler Electric. On Friday, January 17, 2014 Dennis died at his farm home, surrounded by his family. He was one month shy of his 77th birthday.
Dennis was an active member of Danebod Lutheran Church where he had served on the Church Council, Folk School Board, and Cemetery Board, and participated in the Saturday Morning Men's Bible Study. He had also been a member of the Associated Milk Producers Inc. Board and the Tyler Elevator Board. He was a member of A.C. Hansen American Legion Post #185 of Tyler. When the RTR High School Historical Research class interviewed local veterans, Dennis was one of the first participants to share his experiences. He enjoyed reading, especially history, and watching RTR basketball and football games, though nothing gave him greater joy than his family.
Dennis is lovingly remembered by his wife, Jolean; his children, Denise (Bert) Jones of Suffolk, Virginia, Julie (Jim) Koester of Manson, Iowa, and Jason Faaborg of New Ulm, Minnesota; brothers, Allen 'Arch' Faaborg of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Doug (Lona) Faaborg of Custer, South Dakota; sisters, Jeanette Walters of Balaton, Minnesota, and Sharron (Dan) Faaborg-Clark of Bay Point, California; three grandchildren, Jennifer, Zach, and Kate; two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Cooper; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Blessed be his memory.
