Dennis Frank Klein was born on November 1, 1943 to Anthony “Anton” and Johanna (Vortherms) Klein in Le Mars, Iowa. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1962 in Alton, Iowa. Dennis was in the Air Force from 1962 to 1966 and was stationed in California and Greenland where he worked in a warehouse and orchards. Dennis achieved the rank of First Class (Regaf). Dennis met Julie Bohlke at the VFW in Wilmont, Minnesota while attending a wedding dance of friends. On February 1, 1969 Dennis and Julie were united in marriage after their first attempt to have a wedding was delayed due to a snowstorm. After living in Westbrook, Minnesota for three years, they moved to Iona, Minnesota in 1972. Dennis was a hard-working and dedicated farmer for over 50 years, raising livestock and grain. After retiring, he helped other farmers and was a dishwasher at Generations in Luverne. On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, Dennis died peacefully after a short fight with cancer at the Hospice of Murray County facility in Slayton, Minnesota at the age of 81 years, 5 months, and 8 days.
Dennis was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. His favorite hobbies were gardening, listening to markets, helping other farmers, playing cards (Rummy and Pinochle), and taking care of Chloe and the cats on the farm. Dennis was an amazing baker, and he donated blood on a regular basis. He was known for giving people a hard time. If he really liked you, he would REALLY give you a hard time. His family will remember his distinct laugh, being honest and truthful, a man of God, and willing to help his neighbors and expecting nothing in return.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Michelle (Lance) Lake of Ozark, Missouri, Brenda (Cory) Winter of Brandon, South Dakota, Katherine (Dale) Kalas of Madison, Minnesota, and Emily (Matt) Johnson of Dunnellon, Florida; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and eight brothers and sisters. Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Julie Klein; and parents, Anton and Johanna Klein.
Matthew 25:23 NIV "His master replied, Well done good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness.”
