Dennis A. Peterson

Dennis Arvid Peterson was born on April 23, 1952 to Arvid and Evelyn (Miller) Peterson in Tyler, Minnesota.  He grew up on a farm outside of Ruthton, Minnesota and attended Ruthton Public School.  As a child, he enjoyed working on the farm, spending time with friends and family, playing sports, and training horses.  He graduated from Ruthton High School in 1970 and soon after moved to his own farm. He competed in local rodeos through high school and some amateur competitions after graduation.  He actively farmed near Ruthton throughout his life, until his retirement in 2005.  After retirement, Dennis continued living on his farm but rented the land out to be worked.  In 2021, due to a decline in his health, Dennis moved to Falls Landing.  On Thursday, September 7, 2023 while surrounded by his loving family, Dennis passed away at the age of 71 years, 4 months, and 15 days.

Dennis always enjoyed being outdoors.  He spent time with his family and liked being with horses.  As a teenager, he enjoyed several horseback riding camping trips to Lost Timber with his brother and neighbor friends.  He was a hard working man who was very dedicated to caring for his land and those around him.  Many remember him as a kind-hearted man who was always willing to help.  He often also worked various jobs including plowing snow from country roads and driving truck.  Dennis had a soft spot for people in need and enjoyed serving while also making others laugh.  He had a very witty sense of humor and an excellent memory throughout his life.  He enjoyed watching murder mysteries and true crime shows on TV.  Most importantly, Denny confessed his faith in Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior in his teen years. He recently shared with his caregivers at Falls Landing how important it is for them to have their kids attend Sunday School, noting the impact it had on his life. He would order devotional books from online ministries, which he faithfully read and was working on memorizing Psalm 23. Though not one to share deeply, Denny affirmed that he knew Jesus personally. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.

Dennis is survived by his siblings, Gary (Kay) Peterson of Marshall, Minnesota, Barb (Verlyn) DeWilde of Ruthton, Minnesota, Susan (Richard) Stepanek of Glade Park, Colorado, and Audrey (David) Posthuma of Omaha, Nebraska; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents Arvid and Evelyn Peterson.
