Dennis LeRoy Wietzema was born July 30, 1951 to Sievert and Alida (Hassebroek) Wietzema in Sheldon, Iowa. He attended Little Rock High School. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and returned to Minneapolis, Minnesota after his honorable discharge. He worked in construction and sanitation. In 1979 Dennis moved to Lake Benton, Minnesota where he helped care for his parents. Following the death of his parents, he moved to Tyler, Minnesota in 1983 and worked for the Schwan Food Company in their Marshall production plant. While in Tyler he met and later married Delores Schalek. In 2012, he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Dennis died at his home on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the age of 60 years, 9 months, and 22 days.
Dennis was a member of St. Dionysius Catholic Church in Tyler. He was a member of David Bulkley VFW Post 4232. Dennis enjoyed playing cards, fishing, camping, riding his motorcycle, woodworking, and especially the time spent with his family.
Dennis is lovingly remembered by his wife, Delores; children, Jason (and Heather) Montonye and their son, Tyler, of Herman, Minnesota, Brenda (and Robert) Baune of Fridley, Minnesota, Lisa Birchfield of Charlotte, North Carolina, Roxane (and Greg) Davis of Elk River, Minnesota, and Darien (and Lynn) Mickelson of Jonesborough, Arkansas; many grandchildren; brothers, Fred (Judy) Wietzema of Worthington, MN, Harold (Alice) Witezema of Worthington, MN, Robert (Sandy) Wietzema of Watertown, SD, Daryl Wietzema of Fargo, ND, Ronald (Midge) Wietzema of Mesa, AZ, and Sievert (Lucy) Wietzema of Wahpeton, ND; sisters, Lillian (Robert) Jespesen of Britton, SD, Linda (Daniel) Joaquin of New Prague, MN, Janet (Orville) Nelson of Wahpeton, ND, and Anna (Jim) Lampert of Watertown, SD; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, David and Ricky.
