Diane L. Gustafson

Diane Lynn Gustafson was born on March 5, 1952 to Leo and Hazel (Thoreson) Bednarek in Ivanhoe, Minnesota. She was baptized at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ivanhoe. As a child, Diane grew up in Ivanhoe and attended elementary school. At age 10, she moved with her parents to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. At a young age, she contracted polio. She had a pet duck and Saint Bernard dog who both walked her to school and back home. Diane graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls in 1970. On May 15, 1992, Diane was united in marriage to Robert Gustafson in Sioux Falls. Diane was a full-time, stay-at-home mother. In 1993, Diane and Bob moved to Luverne, Minnesota where she continued to live until her death. On Saturday, November 25, 2023, Diane died at the Sanford Luverne Medical Center at the age of 71 years, 8 months, and 20 days.

Diane was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. Diane loved to play games and spend time with her friends and family. Bingo was the last game she played and she had a great time. She also loved playing dice and card games. Diane will be remembered by her love for her family, always having a smile and a friendly word to say, and her love for her grand and great-grandchildren.

Diane is survived by her husband, Robert Gustafson of Luverne; children, Candy (Douglas) Harrell of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Dawn (Terry) Runge of Tracy, Minnesota; 8 grandchildren, Shaely (Wyatt) Scurrah, Brittany (Charlie Bryant) Bossman, Alexander Gustafson, Terri Jo (Andrew) Runge, Nichole Runge, Jeramy Runge, Harleigh Runge, and Jeffrey Lacey; 10 great-grandchildren, Micah Gustafson, Emory Scurrah, Louis  Bryant, Jayden Bryant, Matthew Runge, Bentley Runge, Kayden Runge, Landon Runge, Victoria Runge, and Nevaeh Runge; and a sister, Virginia (Mark) Monger of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Hazel Bednarek, grandson, Michael Bossman, granddaughters, Ashleigh Gustafson and Ashlynn Haroldson, father-in-law, Eric Gustafson; and mother-in-law, Minnie Gustafson.
