DOLAN RUEBEN JOHNSON was born on December 1, 1935 to Carl Martin and Viola Jane (Cunningham) Johnson in Coon Creek Township, Minnesota. Dolan attended school in Russell, Minnesota and graduated in 1953. Four years after his graduation, he married Eyvonne Johannsen on July 7, 1957 in the Peace Evangelical Church in Elkton, South Dakota. The young couple continued to live in the Russell and Florence, Minnesota areas. Throughout their years of marriage, the couple was blessed with five children: Scott, Becky, Darren, Joel, and Kyle. Dolan spent his life working as a farmer and also ran his own trenching business. Dolan beat a cancer diagnosis in 2002, and lived for 16 years, cancer free. Due to failing health, Dolan was brought to the Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He died at the Avera Hospital on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 27 days.
Dolan was a member of the Grace First Parish in Russell and served as a member of the church council. In the community, Dolan was a member of the Russell Roundup Riders, Slicks and Chicks, and a member of the Square Dancing Club. As a true outdoorsman, Dolan loved hunting, fishing, and four wheeling in the great outdoors. He also had a great love of spending time with his horses and spent his time watching the Minnesota Twins. Above all else, Dolan truly cherished the time that he was able to spend with his grandchildren and the times he was able to watch their activities.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Eyvonne; his children, Scott (Brenda) Johnson of Russell, Becky (Doug) Field of Craig, Colorado, Darren (Gloria) Johnson of Balaton, Minnesota, Joel (Colleen) Johnson of McCook Lakes, South Dakota, and Kyle (Kristie) Johnson of Florence; 16 grandchildren, Jackie (Terrin) Torvik, Angela (Reed) Andries, Melanie (Ray) Harris, Andrew (Joscelyn) Field, Jordan Field, Kelli (Alex) Hettich, Danaca (Erik) Jensen, Taylor (Bell) Johnson, Nick Johnson, Nate (Stephanie) Johnson, Leigha (Todd Brockman) Huegerich, McKenzie (Amar Maldonado) Cummings, Andru Cummings, Lauren Johnson, Collin Johnson, and Dylan Johnson; nine great-grandchildren, Owen Torvik, Gavin Torvik, Anna Hettich, Kaden Johnson, Ryder Johnson, Dylan Johnson, Michelle Mansker, Brooklyn Field, Savannah Field, Emily Brockman, and Hailey Brockman; siblings, Eleanor Kroetch of Philip, South Dakota, Dick (Marlys) Johnson of Congress, Arizona, and Darrel (Karen) Johnson of Balaton; many nieces and nephews; and many other loving friends and family members. Dolan was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Jane Unger, Vivian Buchert, Vernon Johnson, Fern Nelson, Dudley Johnson, and Merlin Johnson.
